Hello and Welcome...Today we read through Exodus 27:1-20

We are continuing on with the bronze altar so once again I am going to list the entire chapter today...If you would like a different translation you may click here to choose one.

Exodus 27

The Bronze Altar

1"And you shall make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide; the altar shall be square, and its height shall be three cubits.
2"You shall make its horns on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with bronze.
3"You shall make its pails for removing its ashes, and its shovels and its basins and its forks and its firepans; you shall make all its utensils of bronze.
4"You shall make for it a grating of network of bronze, and on the net you shall make four bronze rings at its four corners.
5"You shall put it beneath, under the ledge of the altar, so that the net will reach halfway up the altar.

6"You shall make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze.
7"Its poles shall be inserted into the rings, so that the poles shall be on the two sides of the altar when it is carried.
8"You shall make it hollow with planks; as it was shown to you in the mountain, so they shall make it.
Court of the Tabernacle.

9"You shall make the court of the tabernacle. On the south side there shall be hangings for the court of fine twisted linen one hundred cubits long for one side;
10and its pillars shall be twenty, with their twenty sockets of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands shall be of silver.
11"Likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings one hundred cubits long, and its twenty pillars with their twenty sockets of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands shall be of silver.
12"For the width of the court on the west side shall be hangings of fifty cubits with their ten pillars and their ten sockets.

13"The width of the court on the east side shall be fifty cubits.
14"The hangings for the one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits with their three pillars and their three sockets.
15"And for the other side shall be hangings of fifteen cubits with their three pillars and their three sockets.

16"For the gate of the court there shall be a screen of twenty cubits, of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen, the work of a weaver, with their four pillars and their four sockets.
17"All the pillars around the court shall be furnished with silver bands with their hooks of silver and their sockets of bronze.

18"The length of the court shall be one hundred cubits, and the width fifty throughout, and the height five cubits of fine twisted linen, and their sockets of bronze.
19"All the utensils of the tabernacle used in all its service, and all its pegs, and all the pegs of the court, shall be of bronze.

20"You shall charge the sons of Israel, that they bring you clear oil of beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually.
21"In the tent of meeting, outside the veil which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall keep it in order from evening to morning before the LORD; it shall be a perpetual statute throughout their generations for the sons of Israel.

Exodus 26:1-36

Good day to you...Today we read through Exodus 26:1-36

The following is the account of the making of the tabernacle...I feel it is very important to understand the significance of the tabernacle so try to open your eyes to the details as you read along today.



Exodus 26
The Tabernacle

1 "Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim worked into them by a skilled craftsman. 2 All the curtains are to be the same size—twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide. 3 Join five of the curtains together, and do the same with the other five. 4 Make loops of blue material along the edge of the end curtain in one set, and do the same with the end curtain in the other set. 5 Make fifty loops on one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the other set, with the loops opposite each other. 6 Then make fifty gold clasps and use them to fasten the curtains together so that the tabernacle is a unit.

7 "Make curtains of goat hair for the tent over the tabernacle—eleven altogether. 8 All eleven curtains are to be the same size—thirty cubits long and four cubits wide. 9 Join five of the curtains together into one set and the other six into another set. Fold the sixth curtain double at the front of the tent. 10 Make fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in one set and also along the edge of the end curtain in the other set. 11 Then make fifty bronze clasps and put them in the loops to fasten the tent together as a unit.

12 As for the additional length of the tent curtains, the half curtain that is left over is to hang down at the rear of the tabernacle. 13 The tent curtains will be a cubit longer on both sides; what is left will hang over the sides of the tabernacle so as to cover it. 14 Make for the tent a covering of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of hides of sea cows.

15 "Make upright frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle. 16 Each frame is to be ten cubits long and a cubit and a half wide, 17 with two projections set parallel to each other. Make all the frames of the tabernacle in this way. 18 Make twenty frames for the south side of the tabernacle 19 and make forty silver bases to go under them—two bases for each frame, one under each projection.

20 For the other side, the north side of the tabernacle, make twenty frames 21 and forty silver bases—two under each frame. 22 Make six frames for the far end, that is, the west end of the tabernacle, 23 and make two frames for the corners at the far end. 24 At these two corners they must be double from the bottom all the way to the top, and fitted into a single ring; both shall be like that. 25 So there will be eight frames and sixteen silver bases—two under each frame.
26 "Also make crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle, 27 five for those on the other side, and five for the frames on the west, at the far end of the tabernacle. 28 The center crossbar is to extend from end to end at the middle of the frames. 29 Overlay the frames with gold and make gold rings to hold the crossbars. Also overlay the crossbars with gold.
30 "Set up the tabernacle according to the plan shown you on the mountain.

31 "Make a curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim worked into it by a skilled craftsman. 32 Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold and standing on four silver bases. 33 Hang the curtain from the clasps and place the ark of the Testimony behind the curtain. The curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. 34 Put the atonement cover on the ark of the Testimony in the Most Holy Place. 35 Place the table outside the curtain on the north side of the tabernacle and put the lampstand opposite it on the south side.

36 "For the entrance to the tent make a curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer. 37 Make gold hooks for this curtain and five posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold. And cast five bronze bases for them.


God himself gave the pattern in detail...The Tabernacle was a likeness of something a copy and shadow of heavenly things (Hebrews8:5) it had special meaning to the Hebrew nation, yet it was a pattern of things to come.

Exodus 25:1-40

Exodus 25
Offerings for the Tabernacle

1 The LORD said to Moses,

2 "Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from each man whose heart prompts him to give. 3 These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver and bronze; 4 blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; 5 ram skins dyed red and hides of sea cows ; acacia wood; 6 olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; 7 and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece.
8 "Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. 9 Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you.

The Ark

10 "Have them make a chest of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high. 11 Overlay it with pure gold, both inside and out, and make a gold molding around it. 12 Cast four gold rings for it and fasten them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other. 13 Then make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 14 Insert the poles into the rings on the sides of the chest to carry it. 15 The poles are to remain in the rings of this ark; they are not to be removed. 16 Then put in the ark the Testimony, which I will give you.
17 "Make an atonement cover of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. 18 And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. 19 Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends. 20 The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover. 21 Place the cover on top of the ark and put in the ark the Testimony, which I will give you. 22 There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the Testimony, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites.

The Table

23 "Make a table of acacia wood—two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high. 24 Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it. 25 Also make around it a rim a handbreadth wide and put a gold molding on the rim. 26 Make four gold rings for the table and fasten them to the four corners, where the four legs are. 27 The rings are to be close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table. 28 Make the poles of acacia wood, overlay them with gold and carry the table with them. 29 And make its plates and dishes of pure gold, as well as its pitchers and bowls for the pouring out of offerings. 30 Put the bread of the Presence on this table to be before me at all times.

The Lampstand

31 "Make a lampstand of pure gold and hammer it out, base and shaft; its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms shall be of one piece with it. 32 Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other. 33 Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms are to be on one branch, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand. 34 And on the lampstand there are to be four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms. 35 One bud shall be under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pair—six branches in all. 36 The buds and branches shall all be of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.
37 "Then make its seven lamps and set them up on it so that they light the space in front of it. 38 Its wick trimmers and trays are to be of pure gold. 39 A talent of pure gold is to be used for the lampstand and all these accessories. 40 See that you make them according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.

I found this very interesting...God himself gave the pattern in detail..."this is how it should be" and in the detail are repeated in chapters 35-40. According to the Haley's handbook... The tabernacle was an immensely important representation of certain Ideas which God himself wished to impress on mankind foreshadowing many teachings of the Christian faith.

Exodus 24:1-15

Hello to all... Today we read through Exodus 24:1-15

Exodus 24
People Affirm Their Covenant with God

1Then He said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel, and you shall worship at a distance.
2"Moses alone, however, shall come near to the LORD, but they shall not come near, nor shall the people come up with him."
3Then Moses came and recounted to the people all the words of the LORD and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice and said, "All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do!"
4Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD Then he arose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.
5He sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.
6Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
7Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!"

8So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said, "Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."
9Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel,
10and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself.
11Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; and they saw God, and they ate and drank.
12Now the LORD said to Moses, "Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction."
13So Moses arose with Joshua his servant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.
14But to the elders he said, "Wait here for us until we return to you And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a legal matter, let him approach them."
15Then Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.
16The glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day He called to Moses from the midst of the cloud.
17And to the eyes of the sons of Israel the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the mountain top.
18Moses entered the midst of the cloud as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.


This is the one that stood out to me today...

7Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!"

Are we being obedient...are we following after him? Are we holding all that is good and pure and perfect as our example...He is Lord of all...We must be obedient to him.

Exodus 23
Laws of Justice and Mercy
1 "Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.

2 "Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,
3 and do not show favoritism to a poor man in his lawsuit.

4 "If you come across your enemy's ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it back to him.
5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it.

6 "Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.
7 Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.
8 "Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous.
9 "Do not oppress an alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be aliens, because you were aliens in Egypt.

Sabbath Laws
10 "For six years you are to sow your fields and harvest the crops,
11 but during the seventh year let the land lie unplowed and unused. Then the poor among your people may get food from it, and the wild animals may eat what they leave. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.

12 "Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed.

13 "Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips.

The Three Annual Festivals
14 "Three times a year you are to celebrate a festival to me.
15 "Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt.
"No one is to appear before me empty-handed.

16 "Celebrate the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your field. "Celebrate the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in your crops from the field.
17 "Three times a year all the men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD.
18 "Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast. "The fat of my festival offerings must not be kept until morning.
19 "Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. "Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk.

God's Angel to Prepare the Way
20 "See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
21 Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him.
22 If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.
23 My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out. 24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.
25 Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,
26 and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.
27 "I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run.
28 I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way.
29 But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you.
30 Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.
31 "I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the River. I will hand over to you the people who live in the land and you will drive them out before you.
32 Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods.
33 Do not let them live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you."

Well these just seem like common sense to me...These are the ones that popped out to me today...
25 Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,

Exodus 22
Property Rights
1"If a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters it or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for the ox and four sheep for the sheep.
2"If the thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account.

3"But if the sun has risen on him, there will be bloodguiltiness on his account. He shall surely make restitution; if he owns nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
4"If what he stole is actually found alive in his possession, whether an ox or a donkey or a sheep,)he shall pay double.

5"If a man lets a field or vineyard be grazed bare and lets his animal loose so that it grazes in another man's field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field and the best of his own vineyard.
6"If a fire breaks out and spreads to thorn bushes, so that stacked grain or the standing grain or the field itself is consumed, he who started the fire shall surely make restitution.
7"If a man gives his neighbor money or goods to keep for him and it is stolen from the man's house, if the thief is caught, he shall pay double.
8"If the thief is not caught, then the owner of the house shall appear before the judges, to determine whether he laid his hands on his neighbor's property.

9"For every breach of trust, whether it is for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any lost thing about which one says, 'This is it,' the case of both parties shall come before the judges; he whom the judges condemn shall pay double to his neighbor.

10"If a man gives his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep for him, and it dies or is hurt or is driven away while no one is looking,
11an oath before the LORD shall be made by the two of them that he has not laid hands on his neighbor's property; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.

12"But if it is actually stolen from him, he shall make restitution to its owner.

13"If it is all torn to pieces, let him bring it as evidence; he shall not make restitution for what has been torn to pieces.
14"If a man borrows anything from his neighbor, and it is injured or dies while its owner is not with it, he shall make full restitution.

15"If its owner is with it, he shall not make restitution; if it is hired, it came for its hire.
Sundry Laws
16"If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged, and lies with her, he must pay a dowry for her to be his wife.
17"If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equal to the dowry for virgins.
18"You shall not allow a sorceress to live.

19"Whoever lies with an animal shall surely be put to death.

20"He who sacrifices to any god, other than to the LORD alone, shall be utterly destroyed.
21"You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
22"You shall not afflict any widow or orphan.

23"If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry;
24and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall
become widows and your children fatherless.
25"If you lend money to My people, to the poor among you, you are not to act as a creditor to him; you shall not charge him interest.

26"If you ever take your neighbor's cloak as a pledge, you are to return it to him before the sun sets,
27for that is his only covering; it is his cloak for his body. What else shall he sleep in? And it shall come about that when he cries out to Me, I will hear him, for I am gracious.
28"You shall not curse God, nor curse a ruler of your people.

29"You shall not delay the offering from your harvest and your vintage The firstborn of your sons you shall give to Me.
30"You shall do the same with your oxen and with your sheep It shall be with its mother seven days; on the eighth day you shall give it to Me.

31"You shall be holy men to Me, therefore you shall not eat any flesh torn to pieces in the field; you shall throw it to the dogs.

These are the ones that stood out to me...I don't know why...
18"You shall not allow a sorceress to live. (WITCHCRAFT)
19"Whoever lies with an animal shall surely be put to death. (EWWW)
20"He who sacrifices to any god, other than to the LORD alone, shall be utterly destroyed.

especially that last one...He who sacrifices to any god, other than the Lord alone, shall be utterly destroyed. It doesn't say put to death, or stoned or the like it says utterly destroyed.

Exodus 21:1-36

Exodus 21
Ordinances for the People
1"Now these are the ordinances which you are to set before them:

2"If you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years; but on the seventh he shall go out as a free man without payment.
3"If he comes alone, he shall go out alone; if he is the husband of a wife, then his wife shall go out with him.
4"If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall go out alone.
5"But if the slave plainly says, 'I love my master, my wife and my children; I will not go out as a free man,'
6then his master shall bring him to God, then he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him permanently.

7"If a man sells his daughter as a female slave, she is not to go free as the male slaves do.
8"If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who designated her for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He does not have authority to sell her to a foreign people because of his unfairness to her.
9"If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of daughters.
10"If he takes to himself another woman, he may not reduce her food, her clothing, or her conjugal rights.
11"If he will not do these three things for her, then she shall go out for nothing, without payment of money.

Personal Injuries

12"He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death.
13"But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God let him fall into his hand, then I will appoint you a place to which he may flee.
14"If, however, a man acts presumptuously toward his neighbor, so as to kill him craftily, you are to take him even from My altar, that he may die.
15"He who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.
16"He who kidnaps a man, whether he sells him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death.

17"He who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

18"If men have a quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but remains in bed,
19if he gets up and walks around outside on his staff, then he who struck him shall go unpunished; he shall only pay for his loss of time, and shall take care of him until he is completely healed.
20"If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished.
21"If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property.
22"If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide.
23"But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life,
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
26"If a man strikes the eye of his male or female slave, and destroys it, he shall let him go free on account of his eye.
27"And if he knocks out a tooth of his male or female slave, he shall let him go free on account of his tooth.

28"If an ox gores a man or a woman to death, the ox shall surely be stoned and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall go unpunished.
29"If, however, an ox was previously in the habit of goring and its owner has been warned, yet he does not confine it and it kills a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned and its owner also shall be put to death.
30"If a ransom is demanded of him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is demanded of him.

31"Whether it gores a son or a daughter, it shall be done to him according to the same rule.
32"If the ox gores a male or female slave, the owner shall give his or her master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

33"If a man opens a pit, or digs a pit and does not cover it over, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,
34the owner of the pit shall make restitution; he shall give money to its owner, and the dead animal shall become his.
35"If one man's ox hurts an others so that it dies, then they shall sell the live ox and divide its price equally; and also they shall divide the dead ox.
36"Or if it is known that the ox was previously in the habit of goring, yet its owner has not confined it, he shall surely pay ox for ox, and the dead animal shall become his.

WOW! Ok.. After the 10 commandments this was the first installment of laws for a Hebrew Nation. (boy have times changed) This shows that people of slavery who now had no masters needed to be taught or told what was right and what was wrong. What I find interesting is that they talk about having slaves...one would think that that would be gone now? But they do let them go after 7 years. I think it was just a way of paying off debt. (just thinking out loud on this one :o)
