Genesis 12:1-20

Good morning and welcome back...Today we read Genesis 12:1-20.
Today we learned about Abram. We learned the Lord sent him away from his family and told him that he would show him a great nation and he would make his name great. He also told him he would bless him and would bless all those who blessed him and in him all the families of the earth would be blessed. So Abram did as the Lord asked.

He took with him Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew. They all set out for Cannan and passed through it. The Lord appeared to him and said his descendants would get this land so he built an altar to the Lord there.
Abram journeyed on, continuing toward the Negev. There was famine there so they continued on to Egypt...We learned that Abram was afraid so he asked his beautiful wife to say she was his sister so their lives would be spared. She did. 15Pharaoh's officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16Therefore he treated Abram well for her sake.

But the Lord struck Pharaoh's house with many plagues for Sarai's Sake and the Pharaoh said to him... "What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?
19"Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her and go."
20Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him.

Ohhhh My~ this one leaves us at an interesting place doesn't it...Why did Abram fear Pharaoh when he go to Egypt...The Lord had sent him there...and yet he took it upon himself to make a scheme...to save his own skin...and what did his poor wife put up with in the process?
We will learn more about Abram in tomorrow's reading. Please join me in reading Genesis 13:1-18
