Genesis 25:1-24

Hello again...I am so glad you are with me again today...May the Lord bless you in your faithfulness to meet with him daily through his word. Today we read Genesis 25:1-24

Today we read that Abraham took another wife who gave him more children...We learned that he lived to be 175 and then died. We learned that he gave all he had to Isaac after he died but gave gifts to the children of the new wife (Keturah. ) while he was living.

8Abraham breathed his last and died in a ripe old age, an old man and satisfied with life; and he was gathered to his people.

Isaac buried him next to Sarah in the cave next to the field which he had purchased.

11It came about after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac lived by Beer-lahai-roi.

12Now these are the records of the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's maid, bore to Abraham;
17These are the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.

Isaac...
Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.
22But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If it is so, why then am I this way?" So she went to inquire of the LORD.
23The LORD said to her,
"Two nations are in your womb;
And two peoples will be separated from your body;
And one people shall be stronger than the other;
And the older shall serve the younger."
24When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

Esau came first (covered in hair) Jacob was second grasping the heal of Esau. When they grew up Esau was a hunter, but Jacob was a peace full man... Rebekah loved Jacob. One day after a hard labor Esau came in from the field and was famished...he wanted some of Jacob's stew...Jacob said only if you give me your birthright...he did

34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and rose and went on his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Ahh Birthright...It is not as important to us today as it was back then...Birthright was everything. We need to understand what this exchange meant to them...For one to give up his birthright was not heard of... And for a brother to demand it shows his character...

Please join me in tomorrow's reading as we continue the story on Isaac, Esau and Jacob. Genesis 26:1-35
