Genesis 17:1-27

Hello and welcome back again...Today we read through Genesis 17:1-27

1Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old,
)the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him,
"I am God Almighty;
Walk before Me, and be blameless.
2"I will establish My covenant between Me and you,
And I will multiply you exceedingly."

3Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying,
4"As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you,
And you will be the father of a multitude of nations.
5"No longer shall your name be called Abram,
But your name shall be Abraham;
For I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

6"I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you.
7"I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you.

We learned that the Lord had set a covenant that all men bought or born for now and generations to come would be circumcised...10"This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised. (and any uncircumcised man should be cut off from his people.

We also learned that Sarai's name was changed to Sarah and she was told that she would have a child. Abraham laughed because she was 90 years old.

The Lord told them that he would take care of Ishmael and would bless him. And they would have a son and name him Isaac and he will be great among the nations.

After the Lord left Abraham he went and circumcised all the males in his household...he was 99 when he was circumcised.

Wow...so that all just makes me wonder if that was the punishment for sleeping with another?? hmmmmm..now I know the Lord had something bigger in mind for this but I just wonder...there had to be some kind of punishment didn't there????.I bet that was a crazy day...all the men were circumcised all on the same day...oh I can just hear the nashing of teeth from here.

Please join me in tomorrow's reading of Genesis 18:1-33 We will be learning about the Birth of Isaac.
