Genesis 24:1-67

Hello and Good Day to you :o) I'm so glad your still with me...Today we read Genesis 24:1-67.

Today we learned about Rebekah...

Abraham was getting well stricken in age and the Lord had blessed him in all things. He called for his man servant

3And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

He wanted him to find a wife among his family line for they are the ones who are blessed.

So the servant went out to find Isaac a wife...as he went he prayed that the Lord would show him the right woman by having her water not only himself but his camels.

15And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder. he asked her for a drink.

18And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
19And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.

He then asked her who's daughter was she...24And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.

He asked her for a place to stay tonight and she agreed...he gave her bracelets and a nose ring and she went to tell her family he was coming.

They fed him and he said he could not eat with out giving them his word...He told them the story of the well and the camels and that the Lord had blessed Abraham and his son Isaac and he wanted to take Rebekah to him as his wife...They agreed but they wanted to wait 10 days and the servant did not want to wait to return...The family decided to ask Rebekah if she wanted to go now...she did.

The servant bowed and worshiped the Lord.

On their way back they came across Isaac meditating in the field...she asked who this man was..and was told it was Isaac..she covered her face.

66And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
67And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

This was a long reading today but it was interesting wasn't it...oh to meet a husband that way...Can you imagine your man servant picking out your wife or picking out you because of a act of kindness...He was following the Lord's direction so we know it could not have gone wrong...We do not do that today...We pick out our own spouse...I know that my husband was sent to me by God...and the Lord has such a sense of humor. But I could not have chosen a better man...I often pray for those who are unequally yoked...for life is hard enough when you have the same beliefs as your husband...So if you are in this boat...I pray for you often. The Lord can turn all things together for good for those who are called according to his purpose...
