Genesis 30:1-43

Hello again...Today we read Genesis 30:1-43

Oh there was sibling revelry...Today we learned that Rachael was jealous of her sister because she did not have any children for Jacob. She sent her maid to Jacob to have children for him...Leah was also sad that she did not have any more children and sent her maid to have children for her...they had 4 children for Jacob this way. Then Leah had 3 more children...Then the Lord heard Rachael's cries and opened her womb and gave her a son. Joseph.

After Joseph was born Jacob decided it was time to move on...he went to Rachael's father and told him he was ready to leave...but her father did not want to let him go because he knew the Lord was with him and he had prospered because of him. Finally there was a deal struck and he was allowed to take only spotted goats and sheep as payment for all the work he had done.

37And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.
38And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.
39And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.
40And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.
41And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.
42But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.
43And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle.

So Jacob is off on his own now...tomorrow we will learn about any repercussions he might have from the deceit of the lambs and goats. Do you think his daughters were happy with him taking all his fathers strongest livestock...hmmmmm?

please join me in tomorrow's reading of Genesis 31:1-55
