Genesis 16:1-16

Hello again...Today we read Genesis 16:1-16.

Today we learned about Hagar, Abram and Sarai's maidservant. Sarai was so bothered by.not being able to give Abram children that she gave him her maidservant to bear his children for him since she could not...Hagar did concieve a child...and when Sarai saw this she despised the maidservant Hagar.

Sarai treated her harshly and Hagar fled from the presence. The Angel of the Lord found her in the wilderness and asked her where she had been and where she was going. She told the Angel she was fleeing from her mistress and the Angel told her to return and submit to her authourity.

10Moreover, the angel of the LORD said to her,
"I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count."
11The angel of the LORD said to her further,
"Behold, you are with child,
And you will bear a son;
And you shall call his name Ishmael,
Because

the LORD has given heed to your affliction.
12"He will be a wild donkey of a man,
His hand will be against everyone,
And every one's hand will be against him;
And he will live to the east of all his brothers."

So Hagar bore a son to Abram and they called him Ishmael.

I still wonder how the whole multiple wife thing worked out in the days the Bible was written...but this was a case of not being a wife, it said that Hagar was given "Like a wife". She did give him children, and that, the Lord said would happen...

Please join me in reading Genesis 17:1-27 where we learn about circumcision.

enjoy your day :o)
