genesis 26:1-35

Welcome back...The Lord has blessed us with yet another wonderful day. Today we read Genesis 26:1-35.

1 There was very little food in the land. The same thing had been true earlier, in Abraham's time. Isaac went to Abimelech in Gerar. Abimelech was the king of the Philistines.

The Lord appeared to Isaac and told him not to go to Egypt. Told him that he would take care of him and his generations because of his father who obeyed his commands. Isaac stayed in Gerar.

7 The men of that place asked him about his wife. He said, "She's my sister." He was afraid to say, "She's my wife." He thought, "The men of this place might kill me because of Rebekah. She's a beautiful woman."
8 Isaac had been there a long time. One day Abimelech, the king of the Philistines, looked down from a window. He saw Isaac hugging and kissing his wife Rebekah.
9 So Abimelech sent for Isaac. He said, "She's really your wife, isn't she? Why did you say, 'She's my sister'?"

Isaac answered him, "I thought I might lose my life because of her."

Abimelech told all the people that if any one harms him or his wife they would be put to death.

13 Isaac became rich. His wealth continued to grow until he became very rich. 14 He had many flocks and herds and servants.

Isaac had so much that the Philistines became jealous of him. and blocked up his wells... So he was told to move away from there and he did.

Isaac opened up all the wells that had been Abraham's and he dug more...there was much arguing so he dug more and more wells until there was no arguing...

He then built an alter and worshiped the Lord. in thanks for all the room they now had.

26 During that time, Abimelech had come to him from Gerar. Ahuzzath had come with him. So had Phicol, Abimelech's army commander. Ahuzzath was Abimelech's personal adviser.
27 Isaac asked them, "Why have you come to me? You were angry with me and sent me away."

They noticed that the Lord was with Isaac and wanted to make a peace treaty that neither one would harm the other. He agreed and they left in peace.

34 When Esau was 40 years old, he got married to Judith. She was the daughter of Beeri the Hittite. He also married Basemath. She was the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 Isaac and Rebekah became very upset because Esau had married Hittite women.

You may ask why I repeat all that we have read each day...I just sum it up to remind you of all we had read and because I believe that when something is repeated it is remembered better...So today we learned that the blessing of Abraham was indeed on his son Isaac. We also learned that his son Esau was disobedient in the marriage of the Hittite women...(again shows his character) Please join me in tomorrow's reading of Genesis 27:1-46

Enjoy your day :o)
